With the Catoctin football team set to play in its first state final in roughly a decade, the team’s star running back, Carson Sickeri, and his father, Jamie, an assistant coach, are the guests this week on The Final Score Podcast.

The Sickeris chat with host Greg Swatek about the Cougars’ big shutout win over perennial Class 1A power Fort Hill last week and what makes their offense so dynamic. Catoctin is averaging more than 40 points per game this season. Jamie shares his back story growing up as a high school running back in a small, Western Pennsylvania football town and the family lineage at the position. Carson has reached even greater heights this season with more than 2,000 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns.

They also talk about what lies ahead, as Catoctin is set to face another perennial state power in Dunbar in the 1A championship game Saturday afternoon, and what they feel it will be like taking the field at Navy’s Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.

Up first, though, FNP sports writers John Cannon and Joe Ferraro join Greg to discuss the historical milestone, as Frederick County placed three teams in the state football final in the same year for the first time. They share thoughts and insights about Linganore’s game with Damascus in the 3A final, Catoctin’s game with Dunbar in the 1A championship game, as well as Middletown’s game with Potomac in the 2A final.
